Well…LOTOJA is over!!!!! I will be posting pics and a description of how things went for me over the next week or so…as well as what I learned about how to race next year. However, I wanted to share this video in the meantime. This is one of my main cycling buddy’s…and the humor of it all is that he really would wear everything he had on here – in fact, if it would have been cold enough he would have worn them during LOTOJA. But, rest assured, he is a TOUGH rider!!!!

I had a great ride today up Sunnyside. The countdown is on. I think I should clean my bike for LOTOJA – what do you think?

Okay – so, July 31st was the big Tour de Park City ride. Can I just say…WOW!!!! I started racing at about 6:45 AM. It was a little chilly, but not too bad. It was a beautiful morning and looked like it was going to be a pretty hot day.

I felt pretty good to start, but I was nervous about the race and, as a result, my stomach was upset. Needless to say, I couldn’t eat anything!!! I rode 150 miles with nothing but a couple of small things in my stomach and I bonked pretty hard. I did stay plenty hydrated, but not taking in any food was a real kicker. Round about mile 75 I was beginning to wonder if I was actually going to be able to complete the race or not. My hands got so cramped I couldn’t even open and close them!!

Mile 93-100 was pretty darn tough, and I had to finish the climb to Bald Mountain that was pretty horrendous…luckily I missed most of the rain at that point. Well – the mountains were all pretty huge in my opinion. Other “cyclists” (revised per Cameron Hoffman…thank you, Cameron, for keeping me straight!!) said they weren’t super steep, it was just the constant climb that was so difficult. After mile 100 we started going downhill a little and I started recovering a bit. Just a real short break at mile 121 and we took off with another group we were lucky enough to overtake on the way down. Then – my buddy, Eric Odell, blew a tire out about 10 miles from the finish line. That was a huge bummer because he had been good enough to stick with me the whole way until then…

SO…now that it’s over I can honestly say I am glad I did it. Mile 75? Probably would’ve had a few choice words that weren’t too positive!! All in all it must not have been too bad because I am going to go ride 111 miles this week at the ULCER Ride in Lehi, Utah!! Hope you enjoy the pic’s!!
