Still moving forward in my quest for fame and fortune at the Leadville 100 MTB race this August 2013, but I am struggling with my training plan…do I do more MTB or road bike? Or a combination of both?
I feel like I get a much more intense workout on my road bike – in fact, there is quite a difference between the intensity levels I experience on my road bike versus my mountain bike…
BUT I will be riding a mountain bike at the Leadville 100 and need to get much more used to it than I am. I am told the race isn’t very technical as far as mountain bike races go, so my train of thought is I need to keep pushing harder on my road bike.
ANYWAY – there it is. I am attending a camp in July in Leadville itself and will have the opportunity to go over the course almost a month before the event. Hoping my training will have paid off up to that point and will give me further insight on what I need to change up or focus on in the coming weeks to Leadville.
Century Ride
You know, I just had a great time! My training seems to be paying off this year and I was able to ride strong and hard. Unfortunately, I do have a small issue with my hip – well, a big one. It’s not cooperating, but I’m doing everything I can to get it healed and feeling good so I can keep riding.
My crazy 14-year-old son was riding with the group behind me and decided to tackle an additional 10% grade hill that wasn’t actually supposed to be “in” the ride. He ended up at 117 miles and I ended up at 110. He was most definitely “feeling” it when he came in – 3 huge hills in a full Century (and more!) in one day 🙂
