This week I am starting to taper and focus on recovery moreso than putting a lot of high intensity miles in. Last Saturday (3 days ago) I rode my last long distance ride before the race (100 miles) and this week my plan is to split all my riding times into half.
Example: last night I rode for only 30-45 minutes. Normally I would ride for an hour/hour and a half. I will be doing that all week. That way I am still getting some pedaling in, but the tapering will help my legs feel strong and ready on race day instead of all worn out and heavy.
Last night I took my mountain bike out to the canyon and tested a new bottle set-up. I have a bottle cage in the “normal” place on my bike, but I also put one on my bike stem so I can carry two bottles. I think I have my nutrition and hydration dialed in as much as possible, but need to be able to take two bottles so I don’t have to carry a hydration pack on my back.
I was concerned I would hit my bottle when my suspension retracts… so went with a buddy and my son, got some good riding in, and made sure nothing of the sort would happen. All good! 🙂
Other items for the week:
- I am taking my bike in to a local mechanic to have it 100% gone through to make sure it is as ready as possible for the big day.
- I added Stan’s Tire Sealant to my front and back tires
- I’ll be traveling to VidCon in California for the next three days… UGH! Taking my bike on the plane is a good $300, so planning on possibly renting a bike for a few days while I am there. I was quoted at $50/day. I know I won’t have time to ride the first day, but if I can get at least one day of spinning in that would be a good thing!
On a side note, I got a frame for my Leadville 100 MTB map that I bought at the Leadville Camp and I put my race number and my Silver Rush number at the bottom. Going to find a cool place to hang it… !:)
